    UPDATE AUGUST 2008

In more recent news..........Is the Economotor the next step? Our company has recognized the fact that the prices for fuel has had an impact on the way that most drivers now view their MGB as a daily driver or occasional form of transportation. We have began developing an alternative four cylinder conversion to fill the gap of the lower end cost of engine conversions. This conversion is aimed directly at the owners of MGB's who are considering modifying their original engine for more power or doing a modern upgrade. Beside being costly, the average MGB engine can be built safely to add about 25 more HP. Using a turbo set  up on an MGB engine has many and varied problems, not to mention the expense to build an engine with 140 HP that might last. This kind of modifying or hard driving could cause a grenade effect. This newest conversion is aimed at those who want more power and economy from the MGB engine, a lower cost conversion and/or an engine easy to install and maintain themselves. It can be used with an automatic or standard 5 speed overdrive transmission.

Here is what we propose:

Since the RWD version of the modern 2.2 engine (S Series small truck) has a minimum of 120 HP and has a very good reputation of longevity and fuel economy we believe that it is a perfect candidate to fill in the gap for more power, fuel economy, and simplicity for the average owner on a budget. This engine can be fitted with a Weber downdraft carburetor, one or more Weber sidedraft carburetors or nearly any other compatible carburetor. All of our present drivetrain parts and crossmember components fit this modern engine and it can be easily built to 150 HP with no fear of the grenade type effect. A choice of cams are available and a distributor can be fitted. It can be used exactly as it comes from the donor vehicle and has power steering and A/C fitted. It can be made to have a retro likeness to the MGB engine by using a special valve cover with a place for the MGB logo. The stock exhaust manifold can be retained and the original MGB  down pipe and exhaust system can be fitted to it easily. Headers, as an option, will be available for extracting more power while retaining the sporty sound of the four cylinder engine. In either case the MGB exhaust system can be retained if desired. All wiring, instruments, stock radiator and heater, accelerator cable and the fuel system does not need to be modified. No special electronics are needed. No cutting of any metal in the engine bay is necessary in a rubber bumper car.* Leaking of oil is not considered a qualifying attribute as with an MGB engine.

EXCITING NEWS!!! Removal of original engine mounts is no longer necessary on all model lines of MGB!!! It's  true! British Car Conversion, the leader in conversion developments, announces that it is no longer necessary to cut off and remove the original "frame" perch mounts to make way for  new engine mounts when using our conversion kits. Now you can use any pushrod 60V6 engine to make your conversion.

After months of dedicating a great amount of engineering to this new way of mounting the V6 engine the true conversion is no longer a  paper dream. More than ever this is an incentive to do that conversion you have been dreaming about. The possibility of losing value to the originality of your MGB is no longer a concern. The new MARC line of products have been engineered to make it possible to do a complete conversion without altering any body  metal, anywhere.* This non-compromising breakthrough is a milestone in the engine conversion world. Not only do you save time but you save money. Each of the two engine frame mounts are fastened  by one original crossmember stud.  The outer mounts are made of tough stainless steel, don't rust, never needs painting and can be polished to a chrome bright finish. The inner mount is part of the conversion cover which is a beautifully machined modular component. More good news is that you save money when purchasing the MARC l and MARC ll conversions. This is because the primary part of the engine conversion is also the engine mount which is integrated into the conversion cover. This  engine conversion can easily be used to adapt any GM 60V6 to most rear wheel drive vehicles.

British Car Conversion has also announced that the first drive shaft adapter has been marketed. We will continue to build these units and hopefully be able to keep them in regular stock. This is good news for those who are building a budget car. This adapter works in conjunction with the original MGB drive shaft when using a GM or Ford T5 transmission. The market price has not been determined yet but is expected to be half as much as a newly fabricated drive shaft. It is expected that market price will be about $150.00. Recommended for 140 HP or less. Better order early and have that part on hand before the list gets larger.

* Alteration of some body metal may be necessary on some early chrome bumper models. The frame mounts do not have to be removed on any model.

                                                                 NEWSLETTER

2008

The yearly car events have come and gone locally. Turn-outs for both Cincinnati and Dayton events were down by at least 40 percent as this writer has witnessed. Vendors had increased. This could be because of the high cost of operating an automobile or truck. I now plan my errands on a weekly basis. It also appears that the Hydro-Oxy generator is gaining popularity. This item bares watching.

August 2. The new relay panel made it's official debut with a great amount of enthusiasm. Orders topped over 15 units in one day for the various models. The special sale of $175.00 will end by August 31st. After that the price will be fixed at $199.95 for the base model. Don't miss out on this great deal order yours today!

2007

July 10. TCE has announced that they have made progress in manufacturing high performance cams for the 3900 series engine. This has been a major hurdle for TCE.  Controlling the VVT system has been an issue because there is no programmable ECM available as of this writing. TCE hopes to eliminate the VVT by using a different cam and timing chain sprockets. When the new cams arrive they will be available in several grinds. We will keep you informed of any further developments.

August 4. The Dayton British Car Show has come and gone but not without making a little history. British Car Conversions had an entry by owner Phil Johnson. Phil's 3100 V6 powered MGB Roadster with the MARC l Conversion Kit took top honors by winning 1st place in Open/Modified class, beating out more then 18 cars! Congratulations to Phil and to BCC for a fine example of a sensible conversion.

September 17. The first DIY 3500 conversion has been completed and in record time. This was accomplish by two local enthusiasts. The project was the first FWD to RWD conversion on record to be done in less than 5 weeks by a private individual and an accomplice. Mac Macintosh , known for his skills in aerobatics and drag racing is now looking at the western horizon through the window of  his ultra fast 1974 MGB roadster as he heads for Las Vegas. Mac was determined to get to Las Vegas in his car. Even though he had some minor set backs he had a lot of team effort from our staff and associated businesses. Good luck Mac, at the wheel and also the wheel at Vegas.

September 17. A gathering of the minds at British Car Conversions to assist Mac Macintosh included Dann Wade of British Car Conversions, Marc Traylor from TCE Motorsports, Ryan Gick of Sinister Performance, and Mike Miller "Milzy" from Milzy Motorsports. All were interested to see the result of an ultra-tune program done by Ryan Gick.  Mac left with Ryan for a road test. Ryan had a chip programmer set up in the car but returned to the shop in a few minutes and Mac had a bit of concern showing on his face. The exhaust was pouring blue smoke but the engine was quiet but was missing and shaking. I immediately assured him that it was probably an injector stuck open due to the odor of the exhaust. I assured him that  some residual particles might have been left in the fuel line. He had earlier repaired a fuel regulator threaded hole that had the threads unfinished properly. A set of new injectors was installed and out to the street again. Some time later when they came back we asked how it ran. With a huge confident grin he said "it's your engine check it out." I drove this monster. The torque was even more amazing then I would have guessed. We agreed that it was most likely a lower 13's car.

In other news, BCC now has a good stock of MARC l Conversion Kits on hand. This would be a good time to invest in this great conversion and have it on hand to do that project this winter.

BCC has been investigating the use of the MegaSquirt programmable ECM for an alternative engine management system. BCC plans to sell this unit with a full harness for all their engine lines. Prices will be comparable to the original OBD 1 ECM  they now use.

The future may hold the key for the "turn key" buyer. British Car Conversions is planning to sell full converted MGB cars right off the showroom floor. These cars can be ordered in a variety of models and options. Call today for more details.
